Dr. Henry Heaton is a board-certified dermatologist at The Dermatology Specialists. He was born and raised in Geneva, NY, in the heart of the Finger Lakes. After graduating from Swarthmore College with majors in History and Psychology, he spent a year in Tallahassee, FL working as a medical assistant with a well-known Dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. He then traveled to Nashville, TN where he worked at Vanderbilt as part of a research team studying HIV.
Dr. Heaton completed his MD degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn. In medical school, he received numerous academic and teaching awards including induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society as a third-year student. He graduated, summa cum laude, as the valedictorian of his medical school class.
After medical school, Dr. Heaton moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan for an internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital. He then traveled to Connecticut for a Dermatology residency at Yale, where he worked with world-renowned faculty and eventually served as Chief Resident. Finally, he completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology with a nationally renowned leader in the field at Cooper University Hospital. He has published widely on both general and surgical topics in numerous dermatologic journals and has authored several textbook chapters.
Dr. Heaton spends most of his time outside of work with his wife and young son. He enjoys tennis, basketball, escapist fiction of every kind, and playing the cello.
