The TDS Ozone Park office is just steps from the Ozone Park subway station, right at the bustling corner of Liberty Ave and Lefferts Blvd. If you live in the neighborhood, you know this intersection like the back of your hand. But here are a few quirky facts about Ozone Park you might not know…
A Breath of Fresh… Marketing?
Back in the 1880s, developers named the neighborhood “Ozone Park” to suggest ocean breezes and clean, malaria-free air. It was basically 19th-century branding before branding was cool.
The Race That Froze Time
On August 2, 1940, the world’s first photo finish in horse racing history happened at Aqueduct Racetrack right here in Ozone Park. Before that? It was all “he won, I think?”
Mob Ties & Movie Lines
Ozone Park was basically born ready for the big screen. It’s where scenes from The Godfather Part IIGoodfellas, and The Sopranos were filmed—and where real-life mob boss John Gotti grew up. Art imitating life… or the other way around?
