Accutane Users, Is Your Face Thirsty?

Author: Dr. Bobby Buka

There has been a shift in the recommendations for emollients or moisturizers recommended by dermatologists. This shift has gone from older products like Vaseline and Aquaphor that are petrolatum based to more effective moisturizers that contain an ingredient called Ceramide.

Ceramides, are found in an over-the-counter cream that is available at your local drugstore called CeraVe. It is also in our First Aid Beauty product, the Ultra Repair cream.  Ceramides are lipids that intercalate or blend between skin cells.  When they get between skin cells, they help retain underlying moisture from escaping the skin.

This is the best way to keep your skin hydrated.  It helps trap moisture that you take in by drinking water.  By trapping this water in the skin, your skin will not dry up due to isotretinoin, cold weather, sun, or wind.
