Aging Hand Treatment

Author: Dr. Bobby Buka

As the human body ages, it will begin to lose fat in many places. This is the reason why older people start to develop hollow areas on the face. In other places of the body it will result in sagging skin. Sometimes this creates the appearance of large veins appearing on the hands. The solution is a treatment that replaces the missing fat, and there is a specific treatment available for the hands.

In the New York City area, our dermatologists perform a procedure to rejuvenate the hands. Dermal fillers are used to replace the missing fat. The result is a pair of hands that look much younger.

The material used for the filler is injected underneath the skin and on top of the bones. The substance is safe and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It is composed of calcium Hydroxylapatite. A form of this substance makes up half of your bone structure. So, a foreign substance is not being introduced to your body.

This procedure is done on an outpatient basis at The Dermatology Specialists’ offices. A local anesthesia for the hands is used. A small amount of the filler is injected with a needle at the best location for each particular hand. This location is determined by one of our board-certified dermatologists. The entire treatment only takes 15 minutes, and you will be able to see a difference in your hands right away. It will take another seven days to see the final results.

The results of the treatment will last up to one year. After this time another treatment will be needed. Often one syringe will be enough, but depending upon the condition of the hands, two syringes may be needed.
