How does the CO2 laser actually reduce acne scars?

Author: Dr. Bobby Buka

The CO2 resurfacing laser is an ablative laser that creates a controlled wound, which is the starting point of improving acne scarring. Acne scars are inert tissue with an irregular, uneven surface.

By reactivating collagen in that area, we ask the body to essentially heal over a controlled, created wound. Healing over with fresh collagen can improve the appearance of scar tissue deep down. This helps catch fewer shadows on the surface of the skin to appear less noticeable.
