Dermatologists can help with chronic ingrown hairs in the bikini area and beyond. Oftentimes, laser therapy on these stubborn ingrown hairs can be more successful than the other options you may have tried, such as shaving, waxing and electrolysis.
It does seem to be a particularly tricky topic since your hair is lighter in color. The laser works by emitting an energy source that is absorbed specially by darker colors or pigments. Therefore, reddish or lighter hair does not absorb the energy as well and is unlikely to be heated to a point where the hair follicular bulb is rendered inactive.
So a mixed answer for you, I’m afraid. Yes, lasers probably work best for hair removal and chronic, stubborn folliculitis or ingrown hairs, but the bad news is we have yet to find something that works well on lighter colored hair.
