At The Dermatology Specialist (TDS), we’re always looking for ways to make your health care experience better—from the moment you walk in the door to your follow-up care. That’s why we’re excited to announce a bold step forward in healthy skin: TDS is one of the first dermatology groups in the country to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into our intake process.
In partnership with OpenClinic, a cutting-edge healthcare tech company, we’re gradually rolling out an innovative intake system across our clinics in New York, Philadelphia, and Delaware. Here’s what it means for you.
Have you ever felt rushed during an appointment, or left the clinic wishing you had more time to discuss your concerns with your provider? Felt concerned that something you said wasn’t accurately relayed to your doctor? We hear you. This is why we’re excited to improve your experience.
Through this collaboration, patients will be able to begin their appointments at home by sharing their symptoms, medical history, and other details with the integration of first-of-its-kind technology before you even meet with a provider. By the time your dermatologist joins you in the exam room, they will already have a detailed summary of your concerns, absent any potential human error, giving you peace of mind and more time to focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and our next steps together.
Here’s how it works: Before you arrive at the clinic, you’ll start by interacting with our voice-enabled assistant on your phone. This assistant will ask you a series of questions, allowing you to share your medical history and symptoms at your own pace. You can even note preferences, like whether you’d prefer to avoid certain treatments, such as oral medication or injections.
By the time your provider walks in, they’ll already have a detailed summary of your health information. This means you’ll have more time to discuss your diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps—without feeling rushed.
Dr. Bobby Buka, Founder & CEO of The Dermatology Specialists explained, “The biggest concern I hear from my patients is they sometimes feel rushed by the intake process. By streamlining our medical interview, we’re able to maximize time between patients and their dermatologist. This technology helps us deliver better care and a better experience for the community. It’s sophisticated computer-based learning and we can’t wait to show you how it works!”
AI is not here to replace your doctor—it’s here to enhance our ability to care for you. As Open Clinic Founder, Dr. Syed puts it, “AI’s strength lies in collecting and summarizing information, but the real work comes from a qualified healthcare provider who will use that data to make the best medical decisions for you. The human connection in healthcare remains essential.”
The team behind OpenClinic (Usama Syed, Riyan Moussaoui, Hassan Mirza, Nabil Belahouane), which includes medical professionals with backgrounds in dermatology, designed the AI system to prioritize patient safety and care quality. With sophisticated technology handling the intake details, your doctor has more time to focus on what really matters—your health and treatment.
This new technology means we’re setting a new standard for dermatology care— more time spent discussing your concerns, and quicker access to the care you need. We’re thrilled to bring this innovation to our patients.
