There are a few foods that can increase the acne on your body. Skim milk and high glycemic index foods, meaning foods that contain a lot of corn syrup, escalate the production of sebum and therefore can be responsible for 10-20% of your acne. Consuming high levels of shellfish can also trigger acne, however this is very rare. Patients that are consuming massive amounts of iodinated shellfish, like crab, lobster and shrimp, may suffer from this form of “chloracne”. This can be treated by using some of the same remedies we use for acne, or by simply decreasing your shellfish intake.
It has been disproven that chocolate and greasy foods worsen acne and this is now considered a myth! These foods were found in large, recent studies to not be related to to acne.
