Fun facts about Marble Hill
- Despite the fact Marble Hill is completely disconnected from Manhattan, it’s technically in Manhattan. What? Up until 130 years ago, Marble Hill was connected to the neighborhood of Inwood in Manhattan. Then in 1895, the Harlem Ship Canal was dug out by man separating Marble Hill from Inwood making it an island. Marble Hill remained an island until 1914 when it was connected to the Bronx with dirt from a landfill. It’s in the Bronx, but part of Manhattan. Makes perfect sense… not really.
