Yohana Shum, PA-C

Yohana Shum is a board-certified Physician Assistant at The Dermatology Specialists. She graduated from Queens College with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry, and earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree at the CUNY School of Medicine, formerly known as Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education PA Program. She received the Scientific Research and Writing Award for her thesis in the Implementation of Primary HPV Testing as the Screening Method for Cervical Dysplasia.

Yohana has experience as both a Physician Assistant and Medical Assistant and has trained in a variety of hospitals and clinics across the New York City area. She’s long held an interest in the power of small cosmetic and medical procedures to better patients’ lives and enhance their confidence. Throughout her experience as both a PA and MA, Yohana has had the opportunity to treat underserved and diverse communities and handle a large number of pathologies.

Yohana was born to a Chinese family, raised in Venezuela, and now lives in Queens, New York. She makes it a personal goal to incorporate her Chinese, Venezuelan and American roots — and her fluency in these languages — to deliver ethnically sensitive and competent care to patients from various backgrounds.

When she’s not delivering exceptional care to her patients, Yohana likes spending time with her family, traveling, and trying new cuisines. Yohana is a certified SSI Scuba diver and has a passion for exercising, conscious nutrition, and weight training.
