The Skin Academy is The Dermatology Specialists’ dermatology training and development program based in New York City. We provide structured education for Physician Assistants (PAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), as well as a separate curriculum for incoming medical assistants, receptionists and office managers.
We want everyone who joins The Dermatology Specialists to grow during their time with us, not just do a job, but advance their skills, gain confidence, and build on their abilities.
To support that mission, we’ve dedicated an entire wing of our Long Island City headquarters to training and education. Our modern facility includes a classroom, a mock front desk and reception area, a medical assistant lab, and a fully equipped exam room that provides an immersive environment where trainees at all levels can practice and simulate a clinical encounter.
The Skin Academy is a one-of-a-kind program dedicated to helping motivated staff build a strong foundation in dermatology.
Our PA/NP Dermatology Fellowship includes more than 500 hours of in-clinic training with a preceptor and 120+ hours of in-person didactic instruction from our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Beau DiCicco.
Fellows receive structured clinical training designed to prepare them for long-term careers in dermatology.
We currently host residents from two New York medical residency training institutions, New York Medical College and St. John’s. These partnerships demonstrate our unwavering commitment to excellence in dermatology, sharing our senior physicians clinical experience and expertise with the next generation of dermatologists.
Recognizing that excellent patient care requires a complete team effort, The Skin Academy also emphasizes comprehensive staff training. Tailored programs for each role within our organization ensure that everyone, from our MAs to our receptionists and managers, is equipped with the necessary skills to excel. Our training ranges from two weeks for MAs and receptionists to a four-week program for managers, strengthening their leadership abilities.
